jennifer franciotti is live outside johns hopkins with details. what is the latest? >> the gunman has been identified as paul pardus from virginia. he got upset after receiving some medical information about his mother. he pulled out a gun and shot a doctor. that doctor has been identified as dr. david cohen. after the shooting, security called police who responded with a variety of other agencies. they prodded swat teams. pardus was barricaded inside the room with his mother who was confined to a hospital bed. at one point, parts of the hospital were evacuated. police learned something had happened inside the room. they went in to find pardus dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point, we're treating this case as a murder suicide. >> as far as dr. cohen is concerned, he suffered a gunshot wound and spent much of the day in surgery. we do not have an update on his condition. we were told his condition is survivable. a lot of people are asking, how could a government get into a hospital with a gun? we will have more answers to that ansquestion comin
